Q&A

Are you offering in-person sessions?

Yes! I will start seeing in-person clients in my Dundee City Centre office starting January 2026.

How many sessions can I have?

There is no limit on the number of sessions we can have. Regular reviews will help us assess how therapy is going for you.

What are your fees?

Individual sessions: £60

Relationships sessions: £80

I also offer a reduced rate for a limited number of clients at a time to make therapy more accessible. Contact me to request this.

What if I am late to one of our sessions?

If you are running late, please let me know by email. I will wait for up to 20 minutes for the session to begin. The session will proceed as planned unless you advise otherwise. Please note, you will still be charged for the full session, and it will not be extended to make up for lost time.

Ending therapy?

You are free to end therapy at any time, and I appreciate a couple of weeks’ notice when possible. The ending is an important part of the work, and I aim to create space to reflect on and bring meaning to it.

I also reserve the right to end therapy if necessary, and if this occurs, I will discuss it with you in a final session.

Are you currently undertaking
any training?

I am currently finishing my Couples Counselling Certificate training provided by Relationships Scotland. I completed the in-person training, but still have to complete my placement hours. This will qualify me in a few months as a relationship/couple therapist.

What can I do to make sure that our sessions will go well?

To get the most from your session:

  • Turn off and put away mobile devices.

  • Ensure you won’t be disturbed and your room door is closed.

  • Sit in a well-lit space, facing the light, so I can see you clearly.

  • Please do not record the session; I do not record sessions either.

How long are the sessions?

A standard individual or relationship session is up to 50 minutes long.

(Longer sessions can be requested)

How do I book a session?

If you want to book an appointment or change an appointment time, you can email me at:

therapy@deborahgillard.com

What do you do with
my notes?

All client information is stored securely and anonymously, in line with the Data Protection Act 2018, so it cannot be traced back to you. You have the right to access your records with written request. Notes are kept only as long as necessary and appropriate.

What about confidentiality?

Your attendance and everything discussed in counselling is confidential.

As part of professional practice, I meet with a supervisor who follows the same confidentiality standards. I may discuss my work with you anonymously during supervision to ensure I provide the best support.

In rare cases, confidentiality may need to be breached; for example, if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, if the law requires disclosure, or if ordered by a court. If this happens, I will support you through the process and keep you informed at every stage.

Will I need to fill out
any paperwork?

Yes, I will require you to sign a counselling agreement and to complete a quick client information form. These will be provided and discussed during our consultation call or our first session.

Are you currently taking
new clients?

Yes I am! Get in touch now to start therapy.

Where are the sessions
held?

I offer therapy online via Google Meet, allowing you to attend sessions from the comfort of your home, wherever you are in the world.

From January 2026, I will also be offering in-person sessions at my office in Dundee City Centre.

Do you offer a consultation call?

Yes I do, and this is free of charge. This allows us to have an initial chat, answer any questions you may have and discuss how we could work together to help you in your journey.

Who can become your
client?

Any adult of any age and any young person 16 years old or older who has any life difficulties or mental health issues that they would like to explore in therapy.

(Thanks to insurance coverage, I can accept UK and international residents)

What if I need to cancel or miss a session?

You can cancel your session at any time by email.

  • Less than 24 hours’ notice: You will be charged for the full session.

  • More than 24 hours’ notice: Any payment already made can be applied to your next session or refunded, according to your preference.

  • Missed sessions without notice: You will be charged for the full session.

Do you have any specialisms?

Yes. While I can and have worked with a wide range of life difficulties, I specialise in offering therapy to individuals affected by trauma, abuse, sex and/or relationship issues. I am more than happy, however, to help you with any other difficulty you may be experiencing.

What if my parent, partner or employer pays for my session(s)?

I accept third party payments but I require them to sign a third party payment contract. This confirms that while they are paying for the sessions, they are completely confidential and the person paying is not entitled to any information about you or your support.
